THE SCOTTISH RITE DEGREES

Scottish Rite Degrees are a continuation and expansion of the three Ancient Craft Degrees.  It enables the initiate  to grasp with greater significance the real purpose and meaning of Masonry.  The Scottish Rite Degree are an extension of the Masonic search for knowledge and truth.  It gives one a better understanding and appreciation of Ancient Craft.

The scope of Freemasonry down through the ages is so extensive, that few mean have the time or opportunity to investigate, analyze and understand its symbolism.  In the Scottish Rite Degrees, that investigation and analysis of hidden meanings has been done for him and the substance and thought made clear.  The results are satisfying to those Master Masons earnestly seeking more Masonic light.

Scottish Rite makes application of the doctrines of freemasonry to every aspect of human activity.  The individual mason is taught to put into practice the lessons learned in Ancient Craft in his personal life and thought.

Many questions raised by the Ancient Craft Mason that go unanswered are answered in Scottish Rite.  At all times it recognizes the authority Ancient Craft headed by a Grand Master.  It teaches there is no rank higher than that of a master mason, and no Masonic symbol more significant than the master’s apron.  It elaborates and emphasizes the great principles enshrined in Ancient Craft Masonry.

When a master mason is advanced to the higher of Scottish Rite, it does not detract from but adds to his interest in everything for which Ancient Craft stands.  It deepens his appreciation of it and motivates him to more active participation in it affairs.  Scottish Rite adds, supplements and reinforces Ancient Craft in every way.  These bodies are mutually dependent and strengthens one another.

Scottish Rite is a rite of enlightenment.  It purpose is to spread the light of Masonic truth by revealing and explaining matters concealed or only hinted at in Ancient Craft Masonry. Knowledge is power, and the Scottish Rite seeks to arm its members with moral and spiritual understanding.
